: I've got an IBM Deskstar 46.1 GB drive, it was manufactured in September of 2000. It has this strange problem where when I do a virus scan, or the system goes through files rapidly it makes grinding and clicking noises and my system locks up. I ignored it for a while, but now I want to format my disk, but problem is, when I try to reformat it the same thing happens, and it won't even start a reformat. I think it could be defective. What would you say?
