TRY SETTING IT TO MASTER,,ONE JUMPER NEAREST THE RIBBON CABLE,,HAVE THIS AS ONLY HARD DRIVE IN THERE AND ON MASTER CABLE,,
SEE IF IT WILL DETECT IT,,IF SO BOOT OFF IT
AND BE TAPPING ON THE F8 KEY,,AND SELECT SAFE MODE,,
THIS WAY IT WILL BOOT UP WITH OUT TRYING TO
INSTALL ANY DEVICES,,
IF THIS WORKS MOVE IT TO SECONDARY CABLE
AND PUT OTHER HD BACK ON MASTER CABLE,,YOU CAN NOW COPY OVER YOUR FILES,,,

: Trying to slave a Quantum Bigfoot CY 4.3GB drive (jumpers removed) with a new Maxtor D540X Ultra DMA 100 drive. The drive won't detect on bootup. Have manually configured it in CMOS - still no luck. That Quantum drive seemed to act up before installing this Maxtor. The drive does spin at power up (you can feel and hear it) - the LED also lights intermitently on power up. Are the electronics bad or the mechanical parts of the drive? Have some important info on that drive I'd like to recover. Have downloaded data recovery software I found on the net - didn't work. Have used Maxblast and Powermax (from Maxtor's site) - didn't work either.
