I've got a 450mhz PIII Dell with a 33mhz bus speed. I acquired a
Seagate Barracuda IV 40G 7200 100mhz IDE drive and want to install it
in place of my old small drive. I know the Seagate is backwards
compatible with different bus speeds. I read though about the Seagate
not performing up to 33 or 66 standards when attached to a slower bus
than 100mhz.
1. Would a Siig PCI 100mhz hard drive controller board be the answer
to get the Seagate to operate at its best?
2. Would I see any difference in speed compared to the WD 7200 33mhz I
am using now?
Someone told me that they had a similar machine and tried this and it
didn't speed it up at all. Not that this matters but I just want the
drive to operate at it's full potential.
Thanks for your help.
