: : Got Fujitsu Ultra Dma 33 17 Gb hdd as master and want to install Maxtor D540X 60 Gb as slave to it. I set the jumpers, install cables but Bios does not auto detect and hangs on POST screen. Checked and double checked everything. Won't recognise it as Master either. Have tried all options other than trying in another computer. The Bios is 3 years old so I will probably upgrade anyway. What other options are there?
: : Help!
: I'm not an expert but.........
: You need to find if there is an update to your bios. If so, and if you have a flash bios, then you need to download the file and flash it into your EPROM.
: Look for the info and file:
: 1)at the computer manufacturer
: 2)at the motherboard manufacturer
: 3)at the firmware provider
: in that order. You will need to know what kind of bios you have, and what version number. You may also need to know the model number of your computer.
: Whoever provides you with the firmware, usually will provide instructions for flashing. It's very very important to follow instructions carefully.

I've upgraded and now got a 2 year old Bios! My first tries have still not been encouraging. It seems the Bios just won't recognise it. I could get round that with a utility (Maxblast) but Windows just hangs every time it is connected, and that's with 'none' in the Bios so it doesn't hang auto-detecting.
I will persevere! Thanks for any thoughts anyone can give (other than M/Board upgrade which will be the final choice).
