: What is the best way to partition a 20 gig. hadr drive in Windows 2000 Pro?

In partitioning my first 10 gig and now my 30 gig hard drive for Windows 2000 Professional for desktop use, I found using the NTFS format. However, we found that we had to use a Windows 98 Start-up disk to get that to work. Normal MS-DOS disks would not permit NTFS formatting.

Steps to accomplish

Boot system from Windows 98 start-up disk

When you f-disk the new drive, you will be asked if you would like to use large disk support.

Answer yes, and set the partition to the size of your hard drive.

When installing the operating system, you will be asked to select NTFS or FAT. Choose NTFS.

Continue installing system.
