: : First...is it possible to install more then 2 scsi controllers in a server ?
: : Second..if yes, do I have to make 1 controller on id 6 and one on id 7

:
: YES!, AND NO. IT IS A COMMON TO DO THIS IN SERVER APPLICATIONS DEPENDING ON THE SCSI CONTROLLERS, EACH CONTROLLER NEEDS ITS OWN INTERUPT AND DEVICE ADDRESS. THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE THIS IS TO DISABLE THE BIOS ON ANY SECONDARY SCSI CONTROLLERS. MOST CONTROLLER MFG'S WILL PROVIDE INFO ON THIS TYPE OF APP......MIKE

To further clarify the SCSI ID part of the question, remember that there will be a separate SCSI bus for each controller (more properly called a host adapter). Each host adapter will be at ID 7 on its SCSI bus, and each host can support the full range of device ID numbers (0-6 for narrow SCSI or 0-6 & 8-15 for wide SCSI) on its SCSI bus. There is no conflict between ID 7 on one SCSI bus and ID 7 on the other one. (I am running a Compaq ProLiant server with three SCSI host adapters, 2 wide and one narrow. No problems.) . . . . . . . .
