I do that to make image files (using PowerQuest's Drive Image Pro) of laptop hard drives. All the Toshibas and Sonys we have use the same type connector (once you pull off the laptop's HD adapter). I got an adapter for the end of a standard IDE cable from Megahaus. It also has two tiny sockets for the +5VDC and a power "Y" to tap-off your power supply.

: In another forum, someone suggested to a user who didn't have a floppy or CD-Rom to take the HDD out of his laptop, set it as a slave and put it into his desktop and copy files that way (he wanted to trasfer a large amount of data)
: This struck me as odd, because I had illusions that they would have diffferent voltage requirements. Am I off base, or can the laptop HD be used in a desktop?
