Thanks for nothing.After posting my original query on the board I noticed I got no response. Whatever.

I puzzled it out myself and spent a packet of cash to retrieve most of my lost data. Turns out the 1.1 Gig drive I installed Winblows to created a phantom partition on my 20 Gig drive and scrambled about 40% of the data on disk in the bargain. Depending on where the files were on disk determined how much damage was done. MP3's seemed to fare the worst with several songs being fragmented with sections of other songs overwriting them, kind of like butchered casette recordings.

I thouroghly recommend EasyRecovery from Ontrack.com to get your lost files back. Not cheap but but well worth it. The drive is being warrantied as we speak...
