Hi, picked up a 540S and stuck it in my Amiga 3000. The Amiga (using harddrive toolkit built into AmigaOS 2.04) finds the drive okay, but doesn't fully find the drives configuration. In fact, what it does find is kind of whack. -62megs in size, etc.
What HDToolkit asks for:
# of Cylinders
# of Heads
Blocks per Track
Blocks per Cylinder
Park head where (cylinder)
From this (excellent) website, I find that it has 4 Heads and the number of recording surfaces, tracks per surface, and sectors per track. What I don't find is # of cylinders (one?), number of blocks per Track and per Cylinder, and the parking space. I'm thinking blocks don't equal sectors, but what exactly equals a block?
To be honest, I was told this HD was formatted Apple, therefore it may have specific Apple ROMs in it (?). I also don't know the exact working condition as it is used. I also have a Quantum 120 in the Amiga, but the Amiga finds ALL the needed info on that drive. That leads me to think that the drive itself is faulty...
Thanks in advance,
Kevin
