Believe it or not it came out of an old Gateway. I tried everything you said but I always get a C drive and a D drive that are the 40 Gig.

: DID THE OLD DRIVE COME OUT OF A COMPAQUE,,THEY USE [TYPE] HARD DRIVES, WON'T WORK IN A GATEWAY,,ALSO TRY PUTTING THE 340 MEG IN THERE
: AS A MASTER,,BY IT'S SELF,,NO CD'S OR 40 GIG,,
: BE SURE IT'S JUMPERED AS MASTER,,SEE IF IT WILL WORK,,IF IT WILL YOU MITE TRY IT AS SLAVE ON THE SECONDARY CABLE ,,

: : Brand New Gateway PC. Want to add old drive from Win 3.1 computer to copy files to 40 gig drive.

: : Current Config:

: : Windows ME
: : Primary Master - 40 gig WD
: : Primary Slave - 250 Zip Iomega

: : Secondary Master CDRW
: : Seconary Slave DVD

: : Tried to add 340 meg WD (Win 3.1) as primary slave with all combinations of jumper settings. Bios sees 340 Meg drive but 40 gig drive shows up as C and D drive in Windows ME and at dos prompt. 340 meg drive never shows up except in Bios.

: : Help !
