:It should work out fine, on a PII based Motherboard you can in 95 % of the case set the option boot to SCSI in the bios, and since you are not going to use the 80 Gig as a boot drive(I suppose thats what you mean by it not being master) you could mount it on the secondary IDE ctrl. and then you should be good to go!
Regards Hans!
: It's hard to tell if this will work, with the limited info you've provided. What brand/model of motherboard are you using? On some, you can boot scsi before IDE, but on most of the older ones, it wasn't a choice! The IDE always booted first.
: As far as NT 3.5 supporting 80gb drives, I'm sure it can, if the system bios can. I think you'll have to partition it down to a couple smaller partitions, tho, but I'm not certain there.
: Not sure what you mean about the Maxtor not going to be the Master.. Are you saying it's going to be a slave to another IDE device, like a cdrom? Unless it's another IDE hd, I don't believe that will work, altho I can't say that I've ever tried it :)
: : I am trying to install a Maxtor 80GB harddrive in a PentiumII running on Windows NT Workstation 3.5. This workstation currently has 3 SCSI hard drives and the Maxtor is IDE. I am having trouble getting the system to recognize both IDE and SCSI. The Maxtor is not going to be the master. Will this work? Will NT 3.5 support this hard drive?
