Most new drives come with a cable with 2 positions on it, 1 for the master drive and 1 for the slave, so you only need 1 IDE connection for 2 drives. Bear in mind that if your motherboard doesn't support ATA100.... you'll only run at ATA66 or ATA33 depending on your onboard controller, unless you install a PCI controller card. Also, make sure that your O/S supports the ATA100 standard if that's how you intend to install...... and you'll have to install the ATA driver as well.
: Hi As you will tell from my question,I'm very much a novice at this stuff. Here's the deal. I have a EP-MVP4A motherboard , the primary IDE has the hard disk as master and the Zip disk as slave. The secondary IDE has th CD-RW as the master and CD-ROM as slave. I'm wanting to add another hard drive ( a 10K rpm or 15K rpm ) and make it the master while reformating my old 5200 as the slave. I would like to keep all the IDE stuff where it is. Is any of this possible ?? Thanks in advance !!
