Thanks for the suggestions. Apparently I do have a problem with the boot sector, fdisk with /mbr did not help, I also tried on a different machine, but no change. Scandisk, could not read the drive either. So, looks like a trip to the local swapmeet! Thanks again for the help!

: SOUNDS SERIOUS,,BUT TRY,,TYPING THE FLOWING
: FROM THE A: PROMPT AFTER BOOTING OFF A:,,TYPE
: FDISK [SPACE] /MBR AND HIT ENTER
: THIS ERASES ANYTHING IN THE BOOT SECTOR,,
: IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A UTILITY THAT CAN ERASE THE FITST 12 CYLINDERS THAT COULD SOLVE A COROUPT MBR OR REMOVE A BOOTSECTOR VIRUS,,
: I WOULD ALSO TRY RUNNING FDISK DELETING
: ALL PARTITIONS AND CREATING ONE PARTITION TO SEE
: IF YOUR PROBLEM GOES AWAY,,CONNER WAS A VERY GOOD HARD DRIVE BUT THE HAVE NOT BEEN IN BUISNESS FOR SEVERAL YEARS MEANING YOUR DRIVE IS SEVERAL YEARS OLD..IT MAY BE BAD,,TRY RUNNING SCANDISK ON IT ALSO,,TRY SETTING IT UP ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER,,
: BUT KEEP IN MIND THERE MAY BE A BAD SECTOR IN TRACK 0..IF SO THE DRIVE IS BAD

: : I am trying to reformat a conner 4.3 G HD. Have run fdisk and put three partitions, c: 1024, d: 2048, and e: remainder.
: : When I execute format c: /s i receive the following error:
: : Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable.
: : Format terminated.

: : Format works well on the other two partitions, d and e.

: : any help would be greatly appreciated!
