It sounds like you have gotten a new drive and don't know how to set it up. Low level formatting is only used to redefine sectors on a well used hard drive.
The most common tool for setting up a drive is a program that is included with all microsoft sofware called fdisk. If you are installing DOS, you will need to divide the 6GB into at least three partitions since it has a 2GB limit. Win95 version 2.0 and later have the capability to use the whole 6GB in one partition using FAT32.
The "log on" code you are referring to implies that you have software that requires a password and you have forgotten it or never knew it. The problem could be that the password has nothing to do with your hard drive at all, but is in your system setup.
